Weigh-in Week 144: Keeping up good choices

Hello! Today at weigh-in I was down 1.7lbs for a new weight of 148.0lbs and a total loss of 103.6lbs. Woohoo! So far so good with the new food challenges!

This past week was also SUPER cold in Montreal. We were well into the -30s Celcius ( -20s/-30s Fahrenheit) so going outside for prolonged periods of time was just not going to happen so no outside running for me. I’m also not doing well on the getting up early to go to gym before work. I’m working on it! I swear! I just can’t seem to do it. Although the last 2 times I’ve been able to get to the gym before it closed so I went for a run one day and a weight training session the next. I don’t think this will keep up so I really do want to teach myself to wake up earlier.

This week I didn’t think I made the best choices – mostly because Saturday night I ended up at three different parties and at the last one, by 3am I ended giving in to cookies, crackers, chips, and delicious, delicious cheese!  This is Boursin Cheese. It is amazing and if you see it in a store I highly recommend you try it out. Although maybe not if once you start on the cheese you can’t stop:

However, I made good decisions most of the days and meals and so it seems to have worked. Just goes to show you that one meal/one night doesn’t have to ruin your week if you don’t let it turn into a downward spiral of eating.

I also have a couple NSVs (non-scale victories) to share with you all! The first is this:

You’re probably wondering, why am I looking at a picture of a dirty winter boot (with a seemingly gigantic calf – oops, I guess not a good angle). Well the NSV is the gap between the boot and my leg! When I bought these boots, oh years ago now, I could barely do the zipper up at all. In fact, if I’m totally honest, I couldn’t do the zipper up. And actually even as recent as last winter the zippers would not go up all the way and stay up. The boots are still wearable and so this year I decided to invest in getting the zipper changed on both boots and voila they fit now! In fact, they even fit with a pair of skinny jeans on underneath!

The second NSV is this:

I bought my first dress from Mod Cloth! It’s a medium and it fits! Okay. It’s a bit tight in that it rides up a little, I’m thinking that in another 5-10lbs it will fit fabulously! I can’t return it as it was on sale but also I think a large would have been way too big. I’m happy with it and I’m confident that it will fit better within a month.

This week I’m going to keep making good choices. So far I’ve had no troubles resisting the morning pastries and also the big bosses are big on healthy snacks so no chocolate covered almonds or candy for us. I’ll try to see if I can take a picture of the foodables to show you what I’m up against. Have a great week all!

I’ll try to post this weekend about my goal weight as now that I’m in the 140s I can’t keep putting it off…WW has been asking me about it. But I’m scared to commit to a number. More musings coming soon as I get used to this schedule of mine.

New Progress Photos are up!

Yup! I finally got it done! You can find my newest photos on my Progress Photo page right HERE  and you can scroll down and see how I’ve been progressing.

I always wonder if my weight loss is actually noticeable as I often don’t see it when I look in the mirror, but this time I totally see it! I think the running and weight training has been paying off  🙂

Here is one of the photos, front view with my shirt pulled at the back so you can see I have the beginnings of a waist! Yippee!

Happy New Year – Bringing in 2012

Happy New Year everyone!

Hope everyone has had a great weekend so far. I spent a lovely New Year’s Eve catching the fireworks display.

If you caught my post last year you’ll know that I don’t believe in new year’s resolutions – mostly because I believe that true change can happen at any time and it can only happen when one wants it to happen. You’ll never quit smoking, lose weight save money, etc. until you are ready to commit to it and do everything you have to do, no matter how unpleasant. I understand that many people like the reset that a new year provides, but it also comes with a built-in excuse for failure – “everyone gives up their resolutions!”

And, so I would rather make goals for the year rather than resolutions. My goals this year are: 1. To run the half-marathon in September and 2. to reach my goal weight.

To help me reach my goals I have started researching different training programs for the half and have been recommitted all week-long to my weight loss.

And here’s somethig I did yesterday to help me with my weight loss goal: I threw out my underwear. What?! Let me explain.  I, at 164lbs still had and was wearing(!) three pairs of underwear from when I was over 250lbs.  Yup, I had three pairs that I still wore…they were much too big and uncomfortable but I still wore them. There was something reassuring about them. But just like with new year’s resolutions I feel they had a built-in excuse for failure. If I regained I would still have them, waiting for me, welcoming me back. But no more. They’re in the garbage. With that in mind I am going to go through my closet and once again put aside all my clothes that are too big so there is no excuse. Only proper fitting clothes from this point on! No “fall-back” clothing for me this year.

Off we go to 2012!

Do you have any goals for the new year? How are you preparing for them?

Weigh-in Week 82: I’m not gone!

Ack – two days late on my post – but I swear I’m still here and at it! I weighed in at my meeting on Tuesday and I was up 0.4lbs. New weight is 165.3lbs with 86.3lbs lost total. Life has been crazy busy lately and I don’t see it letting up before the winter holidays! Eek!

I’m not too concerned with this gain as I felt very bloated the morning of and I’m attributing the gain to that and to where I am in my cycle.  Something I’ve noticed since the weight loss – and especially in the last few months since the summer. I notice slight weight changes!

I’ve noticed that when I feel bloated or swollen from either cycle changes, not drinking enough water, or from what I’ve eaten I can really notice it. My clothes feel noticibly tighter or uncomfortable. This is completley new to me. I remember at my highest, or not even, just when I was over 200lbs I could easily gain or lose 5-10lbs and not really notice it. Now, when I’m bloated I feel completely uncomfortable. Such a new sensation!  This also means that I’m much more aware of what’s going on in my body – so that’s a good thing right?!?

So many changes to get used to…

I’ll be back when I can with longer/more frequent posts. In the meantime Happy Thanksgiving to all the Americans in the bunch!

Progress Photos Update

Alrighty, so I have posted new photos at 171lbs on my Progress Photos page. This time around I’ve added three photos – one from the front and two from the side. This is mostly because I’ve realized that my workout outfit is doing NOTHING for me. It makes me look like a box. I don’t mind – I’m at the gym to work out not be noticed, but the shirt is getting a bit big to be able to run in it comfortably. So the second photo from the side is my pulling my shirt tight – as you can see I still have that roll above my belt-line. I’m not sure what I have to do to get rid of it, but I figure I’ll just keep working towards my goal and worry about it then if it still doesn’t get smaller/go away.

Sometimes I think I should get myself a tank top so that I won’t be annoyed by sleeves, but I think I’d be too self-conscious. I’ve mentioned before that I absolutely HATE my upper arms due to a bizarre crease about half-way down. It’s getting smaller, but it hasn’t vanished yet so I think until it does I probably won’t be wearing sleeveless shirts out very often.  In fact that sunburn I got last week was the first time I’d worn a tank top in public probably since I was a kid!

I guess I’ll just have to find a smaller t-shirt – which is harder than it sounds ALSO due to my self-consciousness about my upper arms. Why? Because for the last few years as I’m sure you’ve noticed women’s shirts have had very short sleeves. In my personal opinion I think the cut that is so popular actually makes most people’s arms look bigger than they really are and when I wear them they really don’t look good on me. And so, when it comes to just plain t-shirts I tend to buy men’s shirts and usually from Old Navy or American Apparel because the sleeves are longer and cover that crease comfortably (and often, like most things, the men’s versions are cheaper than women’s!). Usually this hasn’t been an issue but I’m already wearing a small and they don’t usually make extra small in men’s! What a good problem to have, but it does cause me a bit of clothing stress.

I’ve been having more and more clothing stress lately. I’ll be happy when Autumn arrives in a couple months – SWEATERS! Yup! I think I need the upcoming cold months to get comfortable with my body. I know how to dress myself to cover myself up what I don’t know how to do is how to dress for summer (I always just wore what fit and what would keep me relatively cool) or how to dress to flatter my body. I feel like this is going to be quite the learning curve.

Oh and guess what all – it’s my one year blogiversary on Sunday July 31st!!! Woohoo! Be sure to come back Sunday to see how I’m going to celebrate 😀

Measurements: June

Ack! I’m so behind on these!! My apologies to all my new readers. I’m usually much better at posting between my weigh-ins however the last two months have been crazy with work.

I took my measurements over the weekend and didn’t have time to post them so here they are. I include both inches and cm.  I only include the cm because on the WW tracker they use cm which is ridiculous. Yes I’m in Canada but other then official government documentation we tend to use imperial for height, weight, and body measurements.  Click on it to see a bigger picture.

The summary of the measurements is that I’ve lost 4 inches since mid-April. Yay! I think that’s not too bad. The last time I’d lost 4 inches I had also lost over 10lbs back in January and February so that means there are physical changes happening even if the weight loss has slowed.

My measurement wish list is that I hope my waist goes down, I fear this might be genetics but it would be lovely to have a proper waist. I’ve got the starting signs of one, but I think it’s still a long ways away. My other wish is for my calves to go down. I have HUGE calves and that means I can’t  wear boots that go above my ankle (and I’m not willing to buy shoes online for wider calves. Shoes are something I have to try on before buying …and even then if you saw how long it takes me to decide!)

The best thing ever is that I’ve lost a total of 33.75 inches since I started taking my measurements in September 2010. Woohoo! I like seeing the progress on paper if I still at times can’t see in in person.

Hope everyone had a great weekend, it was beautiful here and I took the time to hang out with friends and enjoyed my balcony as much as I could. This is my view:
